Amazon’s College Shop Is Live (And You’re Already Behind)

2

School season. It’s here. The ads haven’t even hit the saturation point yet but you can feel the shift in the air. If you have a kid heading off for the first time—or just returning—the panic sets in early.

Amazon got ahead of us this summer. They opened an “Off to College” shop.

Don’t wait for move-in day.

Most fall semester starts are still weeks away, right? Good. That means prices haven’t spiked.

Right now is the quiet window. Post-July sales still lingers, stock is full, and nobody else is hammering the “buy” button yet. Wait until August and prices jump. Demand swells, discounts shrink. It’s basic economics but everyone forgets.

Shop now.

What’s Worth Snagging (Under $100)

The shop is a sprawling mess of goods. Small appliances. Weird gadgets. Fluffy bedding. Slippers. Laundry detergent (which, let’s be real, students forget to pack until the second week of class).

You won’t find everything there—yet. Amazon drops new items constantly. But if you’re hunting for dorm essentials without draining the joint bank account? The current haul has plenty.

Here are a few picks.

  • The basics are cheap right now. Sheet sets. Hangers. Blackout curtains that actually block light.
  • Appliances like mini-fridges or single-cup makers are discounted. Wait for Prime Day in July if you want deeper cuts. Or just buy now before inflation hits.
  • Organization. Bins. Over-the-door organizers. Dorms are small. You’ll need vertical space.

Have you calculated how much laundry detergent you need? I haven’t. Neither have most of my readers. The shop includes it. Buy a few months’ supply now while it’s cheap.

Amazon isn’t done adding inventory. Expect more “gems” before September.

For now though? Scroll through the under-$100 filter. Grab the cheap stuff. Then put your credit card away.

The hard part comes later.
