The Biopic Casting Call

Rep. Sarah McBride caught a curveball Thursday. A journalist asked who should play her in a biography movie. She didn’t hesitate to draw a line in the sand. It would have to be a trans actress. Period.

She mentioned Michelle Hendley. Star of the 2014 film Boy Meets Girl. A logical fit. McBride laughed it off on X. Admitted she wasn’t ready for the question. Just laughed.

The internet responded naturally. One commenter claimed they had the range for the role. McBride wrote back: “Hired.” Easy.

Another thread dragged the conversation into uncomfortable territory. Someone asked if it had to be a trans person. Argued they didn’t see a big deal if cis actors took the part. McBride didn’t mince words. It was about opportunities. Artists who are starving for roles.

Opportunities for artists who don’t have enough of them!

Then the comments went dark. A joke suggesting Rep. Nancy Mace. A South Carolina Republican. She’s introduced a bill banning trans women from using women’s restrooms on Capitol Hill.

House Speaker Mike Johnson sided with the exclusion. Mandated that bathrooms align with biological sex. McBride followed the rule. She wasn’t here for bathroom fights. She wanted to work. To represent her state. The noise hasn’t stopped her.
